Ibis - His Spirit was not strong enough to bring his body to life.
Evelyn - Killed by Noon who then used him as part of a sacrifice.
Hentry - Her spirit was claimed by Dawn for failing her test.
Hide - Her spirit was claimed by Dawn for failing her test.
Margo - His Spirit was not strong enough to bring his body to life. Later used as a sacrifice by Noon.
Chapter one held many challenges, and five Protagonists lost their lives before reaching safety. The chapter was separated into three different sections, following on from a Prologue called The White Space.

The Drowning

In small groups, the cats awoke and found themselves in an enclosed cavern with a small pool by the far wall. Three dead kittens, but one still standing, artificial signs of life penetrating bulging bloodshot eyes.

Your Weakness

Having made a decision in the cavern with the kittens, the cats were sent to face off against four monsters who challenged the weaknesses they displayed during the first challenge: The Riddler, The Pit, The Marionette, and the Locksmith.

The Garden

Separated from the other groups. Four more Protagonists awoke to find themselves in The Garden. Awoken by Dusk to counteract Noon's slaughter. These four fought for survival, while uncovering the mysteries of this strange place.
